Common Questions

1. How do you work with clients?

How

I employ a strength-based approach to my work. Simply put, my goal is to get you to where you want to go, or close enough so that you can curate a new experience supported by healthy lifestyle changes. This includes the relationships you form with yourself and others by establishing healthy boundaries.

Why

We all struggle at times in our various types of relationships, whether work, intimate or family. A loss of voice, which results in unhealthy boundaries, is frequently at the crux. Having poor or no boundaries frequently leads to distressing thoughts such as “I’m not good enough,” as well as feelings such as anger, shame, and/or guilt. As these thoughts and feelings accumulate, they are sometimes internalized, resulting in unhealthy coping strategies such as a disconnect from not only oneself but also from others.

What

Understanding your own significance allows you to let go of self-limiting beliefs and establish and maintain healthy boundaries for yourself. Having these boundaries in place serves as a reminder of your needs, and learning to articulate them teaches others how you want to be treated, ultimately leading to a healthier you.

How

Using a compassionate lens to identify your strengths allows you to let go of self-limiting beliefs that are frequently accompanied by feelings of shame and/or guilt. Compassionate thinking and behavior frequently lead to a more positive reframe of oneself by recognizing and embracing one’s significance. You will embrace your positive attributes and be able to create a healthier relationship with yourself and, as a result, with others if you practice being kind to yourself.

2. What should I expect during the call?

We will begin this call with an introduction that includes a brief overview of coaching principles, followed by an assessment of where you are and where you want your journey to end. We will concentrate on your strengths, values, and goals as they relate to any challenges you may be experiencing with your relationship with yourself and how that relationship affects/influences your relationship with others. If we both agree that Walters Wellness Group can help you achieve your relationship goal(s), we will talk about the next steps (s). If we agree that we are not a good fit, we will do everything we can to point you in the direction of resources that may be useful.

3. Who is Dr. Cathia Walters?

Dr. Walters is a psychologist, educator, and trainer with over 17 years of experience working with individuals, couples, and families, as well as teaching classes and facilitating groups and retreats. Throughout her journey, she encountered themes that were triggered by people who were in unhealthy relationships, either with themselves or with others. She realized that people are frequently in their own way and has worked tirelessly over the last few years to teach people how to manage their own life challenges by becoming more aware of their thoughts and behaviors. She has consistently and successfully assisted many clients in changing the narrative of how they see themselves, others, and the world, and thus their ability to make healthier choices and behaviors. She has assisted clients in achieving their desired goals and objectives by working with them to develop a growth mindset, set goals and objectives, and use compassionate reasoning, thinking, and behavior.

Cathia’s tale: I moved to the United States at the age of 16 after finishing high school. I left a warm climate (Jamaica) to move to a snowy part of the United States; to live with family members I had never met or hadn’t seen in years, and to leave a familiar culture for one that was vastly different. I quickly realized that thriving meant being present for myself. Beginning with the boundaries I set for myself, I learned the value of developing and maintaining healthy relationships.

While not a big fan of social media, Dr. Walters has been interviewed and invited as a guest speaker on a number of social media talk shows.

She has also supported, facilitated groups, and/or provided trainings for various organizations, including Google, Mercari, Annual Reviews, SalesForce, Wikimedia, Live Nation, Grocery Outlet, Affirm, and American Conservatory Theater-San Francisco.
